• Empathy and Compassion: The ability to understand and share the feelings of those in your care is paramount. It involves treating clients with dignity and respecting their individuality.
• Patience: Dealing with individuals who may have physical limitations or cognitive decline requires a great deal of patience. Good carers encourage independence and don't rush clients.
• Reliability: Clients rely on consistent and dependable support for their daily needs, including medication and personal care. Being on time and fulfilling your responsibilities consistently is crucial for building trust.
• Communication Skills: Effective communication is vital for understanding needs, addressing concerns, and coordinating with healthcare professionals and family members. Active listening is a core component.
• Respect and Professionalism: This includes respecting the client's home, privacy, and choices. Maintaining a professional demeanour and using appropriate language is important for the client's comfort and dignity.
• Positive Attitude and Adaptability: A cheerful and positive attitude can significantly enhance a client's well-being. Carers also need to be adaptable and ready to respond to unexpected challenges or changing needs. 

To become a Carer you must have the following in place. Our team will support you and assist in you in gaining these.

• Build a service portfolio to evidence that you are safe, high quality and professional (documents include DBS, Insurance, Contract, Complaints Procedure, Assessing Risk, Safeguarding).
• Know Your Boundaries – Generally speaking  Carers do not have to be registered with CQC? However, if you are carrying out certain tasks you will need to register. Make sure you know the boundaries and comply within the law.
• Understand the opportunities but also the risks and responsibilities that come with being a Carer.

Once you have agreed to become part of the network, you will sign to say that you agree to our Quality Standards and our Code of Conduct, which is in line with all other recognised networks within Somerset, to give a consistent, safe and legal service to those in need of support in our County.
